Sculpted by Aimee Connolly – Second Skin Foundation

From the moment I started using this Second Skin Foundation by Aimee Connolly, I knew it was going to have a blog post all to itself, I’ve been recommending this product to so many people lately so let’s see why!

Sculpted by Aimee Connolly Second Skin

The Second Skin Foundation is Aimee’s first foundation launch and comes in two finishes, matte and dewy with each finish having 9 shades to choose from. As you know I’m oily skinned so I picked up the matte version in the shade 3.0 Light. It’s the perfect day time shade for me.

Before giving my thoughts, let’s have a look at what this foundation claims to have/do – it’s 100% mineral based with medium buildable coverage. It’s got an SPF of 50, protecting against UVA and UVB rays, it’s got hyaluronic acid, collagen and chamomile oil. It’s also got lavender oil to calm the skin and aloe vera oil to sooth the skin. It’s hypoallergenic, non comedogenic (meaning it won’t block pores), contains no artificial oils, preservatives or fragrance, is an anti-oxidant (meaning it can slow damage to skin cells caused by free radicals), it’s cruelty free and it’s vegan. The matte version is also oil and talc-free.

Simply put, this product is going to suit absolutely everyone, I am so impressed with the ingredients, Aimee Connolly has literally thought of everything here. Oily, dry, dehydrated, sensitive, irritated, acne-prone – whatever your skin type or condition, you should be able to wear this foundation.

The first time I saw the packaging, I immediately thought of the IT Cosmetics CC Cream which I also have, I’ve got both the matte and original version of this, more on those later! Second Skin is housed in a long plastic tube with the foundation being delivered by way of a pump. I know a lot of people have said the feel like the foundation is being used up quickly but I don’t believe this to be the case, normally foundation tubes aren’t as narrow as this one and will immediately go back into shape so I think it’s only because after a few uses, the tube depresses that people think they’re using it quicker, they say the same about the IT Cosmetics CC Cream which has the exact same packaging! You’re also getting 32ml of product whereas most foundations come as 30ml. Another thing I like about the tube packaging is that when you do come near the end of it, you can cut it open and I guarantee you’ll get a lot more applications from it. This lightweight packaging also makes it handy for travelling (remember when we were allowed to do that?).

The pump dispenser

So turning to my own thoughts, well you’ve probably guessed but I’m a huge fan, in fact I can’t fault it. I generally use two pumps and apply it with a duo fibre brush (although the consistency is thick enough for a kabuki brush). I find the coverage excellent, it dries down quickly and it’s smooth and lightweight on the skin. It definitely works very well on my oily skin but doesn’t look too matte, there’s still a radiance to the skin which is exactly what you want. It lasts all day and still looks really fresh after 10 or so hours. Coming into the summer months, I think it has the perfect combination with the lightweight feel but still a high SPF (although I would still be recommending you wear a separate SPF) and I have a feeling it will be my go-to foundation for those warmer days to come.

Before & after

I mentioned the IT Cosmetics CC Cream earlier, as I said, I have two of those and while I do like them, I wouldn’t repurchase them, no particular reason, they just didn’t do anything spectacular for me and at €40.00 each, they are pricey. Second Skin on the other hand, I will be repurchasing over and over, I much prefer how it looks on my skin and I much prefer how it looks on my bank statement too – this only costs €27.00 – a great price for all the skin benefits you are getting!

If you are wondering what shade you might be, the SculptedbyAimee website has a great shade match blog post which you can check out here.    You can purchase the foundation on the Sculpted website here where you can also see pictures of the different shades on different skin tones.  At the time of typing this (May 2020), they have a few bundle deals available so keep an eye on the website to find whatever offer suits you.

Happy shopping!
